Modern electronic key fobs offer greater functionality and comfort when compared to manual keys. Batteries will eventually get worn out and require replacement. If your Volvo keyfob is working only intermittently, your battery might be dying and you will need to replace it in the near future.

You can replace the Volvo key fob batteries yourself by following few steps. Choose a clean surface to work on. Lay out all the tools you'll need. Find the battery hatch and ensure that it is set to "open." Make use of a flathead screwdriver, coin, or another similar tool to open the hatch wide. Next, carefully pry the battery out of its socket by lifting it on the side closest to the key-ring loop. Be sure to use rubber gloves to protect the clips or electronic contact surfaces.

Place the new battery in the socket after the older one was removed. Make sure that the positive side is facing upwards and that it is securely seated in all of the clips. Then, slide the cover back downwards and towards the key-ring loop section until it is loose and falls off. Uncover the cover and reveal the hidden mechanical key blade. You can use this to unlock your car from the driver's door in the event that you've lost or broken the key fob.

The latest Volvo XC60 is capable of remotely starting your engine via its key fob buttons. What exactly is it that it does?

Use a flathead or coin, or another similar tool to flip open the battery hatch. Be careful not to touch the electronic contact surfaces using your tools. This can cause the fob to cease working properly.

After the hatch has been opened, slide the battery into its socket. Make sure that the positive (+ side) is facing up. After the clips are put in place Replace the battery cover, and reassemble your fob.

When you press the unlock button just once the alarm will be disconnected and the driver's door will be unlocked. If you press it again it will unlock all the doors and tailgate. The unlock button can also be used to open the windows on the hot days or to let fresh air in before stepping out on the road. If you're in the market for more options, the key fob can also be used to activate ERS, which can start the system for controlling your vehicle's temperature and warm or cool it according to the desired temperature settings when the vehicle is at a stop.
