How to unlock your Vehicle
Modern electronic key fobs offer greater functionality and comfort when compared to manual keys. Batteries will eventually get worn out and require replacement. If your Volvo keyfob is working only intermittently, your battery might be dying and you will need to replace it in the near future.
You can replace the Volvo key fob batteries yourself by following few steps. Choose a clean surface to work on. Lay out all the tools you'll need. Find the battery hatch and ensure that it is set to "open." Make use of a flathead screwdriver, coin, or another similar tool to open the hatch wide. Next, carefully pry the battery out of its socket by lifting it on the side closest to the key-ring loop. Be sure to use rubber gloves to protect the clips or electronic contact surfaces.
Place the new battery in the socket after the older one was removed. Make sure that the positive side is facing upwards and that it is securely seated in all of the clips. Then, slide the cover back downwards and towards the key-ring loop section until it is loose and falls off. Uncover the cover and reveal the hidden mechanical key blade. Inject the blade of a screwdriver or pry bar tool into the slot and gently pry open the back of the fob for the key. After the fob is open you can locate the CR2032 3V battery and remove it. Replace the battery and snap back together the fob.
Note: Some older Volvo models have a different type of battery that is called the CR2025. CR2025 batteries have a thickness of 7 tenths one millimeter less than CR2032, so you'll need to be extra cautious when replacing your battery.

The key fob in your car has a transponder chip that is programmed to your Volvo. When you insert the key fob into the ignition barrel the transponder chip scans the code and compares it with the one that is stored in the start inhibitor module of your car. If the codes do not match, your vehicle will not start. This is a crucial security measure to stop your Volvo from beginning if the wrong key is used.
If you lose your keys in the event of a loss, you'll need to take it to a dealer to have it repaired and your car changed. The process can take up to 10 days and can cost a lot of money. However, there is an alternative to cut out some of the cost by doing the programming at home. You can locate the necessary information in the owner's manual or on the internet. Take off the logo and non-logo covers and lay your key fob on an uncluttered surface. Find the gray button on the upper right corner of the fob and press it down.
